The German Department at the University of Pittsburgh is now an officially authorized testing center by the Goethe Institut. We currently offer examinations at the B1, B2, and C1 levels. These exams are designed to demonstrate proficiency in German, and are recognized all over the world. Note: The exams are open to anyone, not just Pitt students.

We hope to have our next testing date in Spring 2021. Interested test takers must register by February 15 and will be informed by February 25 as to whether the exam will be administered.

The fees are as follows:

If you are a student at the University of Pittsburgh, Chatham University, or Mt. Lebanon HS:

B1: $110, B2: $120, C1: $160

For everyone else:

B1: $160, B2: $180, C1: $210

To register, please click here: Goethe-Institut Testing, and send a check or money order made payable to the "University of Pittsburgh" for the amount corresponding to the desired exam level. This can be mailed to Victoria Donahoe, 4200 Fifth Avenue, Department of German, 1517 Cathedral of Learning, Pittsburgh, PA 15260.

If the check or money order has not been received within 10 days after the registration deadline, i.e. by October 10 and February 25 respectively, your registration will be void.
